Closure of Pent Valley Leisure Centre

It is with much regret that I must inform you that I have received confirmation from Kent County Council that Pent Valley Leisure Centre will cease trading on the Friday 30th June 2017.

As you are no doubt aware, there has been uncertainty regarding the future of PVLC since it was announced in December 2015 that the closure of Pent Valley Technology College was being considered.

Since this announcement the staff of PVLC, the governing body of Pent Valley and Kent County Council have all been working towards the goal of ensuring the PVLC remains open to the community, but unfortunately to no avail.

The process has been delayed as the Secretary of State for Education has yet to confirm who will be responsible for the Pent Valley premises, including PVLC, after the 31st August 2017.

A decision has also not yet been announced by the Education Funding Agency as to which school, if any, has been successful in their bid to provide a new free school on the Pent Valley site from 1st September 2018.

Further to this we have also been unable to recruit a provider to manage and operate PVLC in this interim period between schools.

With the school closing to all students at the end of this academic year we have now run out of time to find a solution and PVLC must close. This is obviously not the outcome that any of us were hoping for, but closure is now unavoidable. However we will remain open as usual up to and including Friday 30th June 2017.

Kent County Council are confident that with the opening of a new free school planned in September 2018, the leisure centre will also re-open in some form, however we cannot say for certain and this will be outside of our control.

We will of course provide whatever assistance we can to relocate our bookings and members to other facilities. I have already spoken to the managers of Folkestone Sports Centre and Three Hills Sports Park who are eager to help and can be contacted via the following details;

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued custom and support, not just during this period of uncertainty, but over the last 12 years. Rest assured that we all join you in profound disappointment that the PVLC will not be able to continue.

If you have any questions, or if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Best wishes,
