The FIA represents an industry which comprises approximately 6000 sites nationwide and is staffed by over 200,000 people. Almost 90% of the population live or work within two miles of a facility – which probably explains why over 1 million consumers walk through thier doors every day.
The job of the FIA is to develop activity programmes designed to help every man, woman and child in the UK be more active, more often. These include:
MoreActive4Life: a three-year national consumer campaign, which was launched in 2009 and designed to complement the Government’s Change4Life programme.
Active at School: a programme developed for Year 5 pupils and below
Active at Work: a workplace activity programme created for time-starved employees
Go: an exciting teenage activity initiative developed specifically for girls aged 15-16
Fit For The Future; a Government funded scheme for inactive 16-22 year olds in Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Suffolk and Torbay, currently being delivered by local clubs and centres
Sweat in the City: a London pilot aimed at 16-24 year old women who need help rediscovering their activity habits.
Exercise is for everyone, irrespective of age, size, weight, sex or income.
FLAME AWARDS
Every year the FIA issues FLAME Awards, which stands for Fitness Leadership and Management Excellence to the brightest and best Leisure Facilities and providers in the UK. There are a ten different categories which are always hotly contested with literally hundreds of sites entering each year. FLAME is rightly described as the 'Fitness Industry Oscars' and winning sites are recognised as the benchmark for their category within the industry.
Pent Valley Leisure Centre has entered the FLAME Awards in the Category of 'Educational Club of the Year' in both 2009 and 2010. This category is open to any facility which is part of an educational establishment - Schools, Colleges and Universities across the UK.
We are very proud to announce that PVLC won the FLAME Award in 2009, following this with the runner up spot in 2010, indicating a consistently high standard of performance.
