Every Child Matters

Pent Valley Technology College prides itself on being a fully inclusive community which caters for students of all abilities and in which the contribution of all students is valued. The school has specialist teachers and support staff trained in the identification, assessment and teaching of students with additional needs. We work closely with other professionals and outside agencies such as occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. All students with learning difficulties and disabilities are fully included in the academic and social life of the school.

Disability Equality Scheme

The school has a range of specialist provisions:

  • The Golden Curriculum supports students with moderate learning difficulties (MLD)
  • The Inclusion Unit caters for students who have behavioural, emotional or social needs (BESD)
  • A designated member of staff to coordinate provision for students on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD)
  • A designated member of staff who supports pupils for whom English is an additional language (EAL)

Students are screened in the first few weeks of year 7 and this, along with information from primary schools, helps the teachers to identify and plan the additional support each individual requires. The students’ progress is monitored as they move through the school and additional support is reviewed regularly. Parents are informed if their son/daughter is thought to require support and are kept informed of the programmes that are in place and the progress made. If parents have any concerns about their son or daughter’s Special Educational Needs they should contact Mrs Allcock.

Pent Valley Technology College has lead school status for specific learning difficulties, visual impairment and physical disabilities. We are developing our strands of support.
