General Information

Pent Valley Technology College is located in Folkestone Kent and is a foundation, secondary modern school specialising in Technology. It takes both boys and girls aged 11-18.

Pent Valley is in its sixth year as a Technology College and is the first school in Folkestone to achieve this coveted Specialist School Status. Design & Technology, ICT, Mathematics and Science are our specialist subjects.

As a Technology College we aim to provide a service to the community as well as to our own students.
The specialist status has helped to raise standards of achievement and the quality of learning across the school and especially in Design & Technology, Science and Mathematics for all students across the ability range. These subjects contribute to whole school improvement by developing innovative approaches to teaching and learning. They develop and share good practice across the curriculum particularly between the specialist subjects.

The school is organised into five smaller communities which we call our Mini Schools. Each student belongs to a mini school and stays within that community throughout their time at Pent Valley.

Design and Technology

All students who attend the school will study the curriculum until the end of Year 8. At this time, all students will choose to specialise in a particular area for their Design & Technology GCSE which will commence at the start of Year 9. Students will then have the opportunity to complete the GCSE in two years and start another D&T GCSE or AS Level in Year 11, or complete it over three years. Those who excel in the subject will be encouraged to submit their coursework and take the examination paper in Year 10.

To help students make this decision, all students in Year 7 and 8 will cover five main strands; Food & Nutrition, Textiles, Graphics, Product Design and Electronic Products. This will be achieved on a carousel system whereby students will study each subject for 8 weeks.
