Can For A Nan

‘A packet or a can for a Grandad or a Nan’. This was the title of a project involving 6th Form students from Pent Valley Technology College.

In liaison with Amanda French, Marketing and Fundraising Manger at Age UK, Dyson Student Council organized for three local schools to bring into Pent Valley as much pre- packaged food as possible for collection on 1st December 2011. The combined collection was then donated to Age UK for their Christmas parties.  The schools involved, Pent Valley Technology College, St Eanswythe’s Church of England Primary School and St Peters, collected a total of five hundred and eighty-nine packets and cans.

To promote the scheme, members of the Dyson Student Council visited primary school assemblies, to discuss and encourage the young students to participate in this worthy cause.   They also produced and displayed posters around school grounds, so parents would also be aware of the project.

Pent Valley Technology College have been involved with Age UK on several previous occasions. During the visit of the Food for Life Cooking Bus, members of the local Age UK group were invited to attend a cooking session aimed at creating interesting and healthy meals for one.

A spokesperson for the Dyson Student Council said that “It was a very rewarding day collecting for Age UK. It is essential that everybody pulls together to make Christmas a happy and memorable one for the elderly and the young alike.”
