| The Golden Curriculum Provision |
|
The Golden Curriculum is a unique provision which Pent Valley offers as an alternative curriculum to students who have moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and who would otherwise struggle in mainstream classes. We teach in small groups with additional TA support. This allows for more 1 to 1 support for the students in the group. In the Golden Curriculum provision we currently teach Maths, English, ICT, Project, Specialist Reading Programmes and RE. From June 2011 we will be focusing on Maths and English. When students require other subjects to be taught in the provision, then the curriculum is adapted to meet their needs. The Golden Curriculum provision is for students from Year 7 to Year 13 so covering the whole age range. Entry Criteria Upon entry to the school students are placed in the Golden Curriculum if they are working below National Curriculum Level 3 or have a CAT score below 80. This enables us to support the students, devise a personalised timetable and cater for their individual needs. Exit Criteria Students are assessed alongside the rest of the school each term. The assessment criteria range from P Scales to National Curriculum. Where progression is made, a review takes place with parents and students and we adjust the students’ timetable accordingly, with integration into mainstream lessons.
